RIR History

The following historical links and documents relate to the establishment of the RIRs and the global RIR System.

Dec 2001 An article, Development of the Regional Internet Registry System, authored by staff from APNIC, ARIN and the RIPE NCC, was published in volume 4, issue 4 of the Internet Protocol Journal.
April 2001 The ASO transmitted Proposed Criteria for Establishment of New Regional Internet Registries to ICANN.
August 2000 The emerging RIR document was discussed during the Address Council Teleconference on 2 August 2000.
July 2000 Guidelines for emerging RIRs and the emerging RIR document were discussed during the Address Council Teleconference on 7 July 2000.
June 2000 The emerging RIR document was discussed during the Address Council Teleconference on 7 June 2000.
May 2000 The status of the emerging RIRs AFRINIC and LACNIC were discussed during the First ASO Address Council General Assembly on 19 May 2000.
May 2000 Criteria for emerging RIRs was discussed during the Open Address Council Meeting on 18 May, 2000.
April 2000 During the ARIN V Public Policy Meeting in Calgary, Canada, participants were notified that the RIRs had submitted a draft proposal to the ASO AC outlining criteria for officially recognizing emerging registries such as LACNIC and AFRINIC.
