NRO at IGF 2008, Hyderabad, India
The NRO was represented at the third meeting of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in Hyderabad, India, from 3-6 December 2008.
About IGF 2008
Under a general theme of "Internet For All," the event featured discussions and workshops across five specific areas:
- Reaching the next billion
- Promoting cyber-security and trust
- Managing critical Internet resources
- Taking stock and the way forward
- Emerging issues - the Internet of tomorrow
NRO participation and activities
Multistakeholder Advisory Group
Adiel Akplogan, CEO of AfriNIC, and Raúl Echeberría, Executive Director of LACNIC, were members of the Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG) that helped to plan and coordinate the IGF.
NRO booth at the IGF Village
Representatives from AfriNIC, APNIC, ARIN, LACNIC and the RIPE NCC were busy throughout the four days of the IGF helping attendees understand IP addressing issues in their regions. The NRO distributed two reports developed specifically for the IGF:

NRO representatives speak in the two main sessions on Critical Internet Resources
Adiel Akplogan (AfriNIC) spoke at the main session on Transition from IPv4 to IPv6, while Raúl Echeberría (LACNIC) spoke at Global, Regional and National Arrangements.
NRO representatives at IGF workshops and forums
NRO representatives were organizers or speakers in a number of workshops and dynamic coalition sessions:
- Understanding Internet Infrastructure: an Overview of Technology and Terminology
Organised by AfriNIC and ARIN, with a speaker from APNIC, this workshop introduced key infrastructure concepts to the IGF participants from non-technical backgrounds.
- Evolution of the Root Server System
Paul Wilson (APNIC), Chair of the NRO, joined panelists on the workshop.
- Challenges facing Internet operators in developing countries
Organised by APNIC in partnership with other organizations, this workshop discussed practical ways Internet operators can provide Internet connectivity in challenging circumstances.

NRO in the closing session of IGF
German Valdez (APNIC) spoke at the official closing session of the IGF.
Representatives from the NRO participated in discussions within the workshop, "IPv6: The Solution for the Future Internet." Following on from these discussions, APNIC Director General Paul Wilson released the following statement on Internet community development in India, as it relates to issues of IPv4 exhaustion and IPv6 deployment:
